Cranquis finally gets a "D"...
And with that prior post, folks, I just reached 500 (?!) posts on this-here blog.
Thanks to all of you who read my gripes and submit questions.
(Extra thanks to those of you who keep on following this blog, despite my oft-slow turn-around time for replying to your questions, exacerbated by my occasional tangents into horrible punnery and sappy reminiscings.)

Also a cold and phlegmatic habitations that lasted for 3months now. :( I tried searching it with google and the symptoms matched Brain...

What dating tips and tricks did you use? Share some personal (preferably funny and/or embarrassing) wooing stories.

Anonymous asked: I currently have barely any idea what I want to do with my life with the resources I currently have available to me. I don't know myself as a person. I've been told that people who wish to and have gone through medical school need to have a good sense of identity, who they are, who they want to become and what they need. What has helped you define yourself?

Anonymous asked: What kind of doctors are you most impressed with? I.e. when you hear what they have to bear with frequently, you can't help but be impressed with. Be specific, not the general "oh all doctors deal with tough stuff all the time, it's not exactly as easy as pie!" wishy-washyness! I mean everyone knows all doctors are cool, but I'd like to know which ones you think are the...

Anonymous asked: If you could change one thing on the world not directly related to medicine, what would you change? Note: the change will be kept and no stupid loop holes will be used to go against it. E.g. if you wanted to get rid of cherry flavoured lollies because they taste horrid (which they do), no one will make things similar in taste to cherries and label it "freqqua flavoured" or something...

Anonymous asked: I remember reading about several different surveys before people of which occupation do people trust most or think are most honest. If my memory serves me well, nurses usually topped the list while doctors were usually a couple or so ranks below. I think doctors always strive to serve their patients to the best of their abilities or do what is in their patient's best interest, or at least...

Anonymous asked: Whoa, so many serious questions from people asking you for medical advice/opinion. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I actually like reading them but how about a more light hearted question:
what child-patient have you felt most sorry for or pitied the most due to their parents, for example in your "Mother nose best" (I think that's what you titled it?) scenario.

Dr. Trix and the "New" School Physicals
Dr. Trix: So your sons are in grades 1 and 3, and need school physicals?
Mom: yes.
Trix: So they're going to a new school?
Mom: no.
Trix: Oh, well you only need school physicals for kindergarten, 6th and 9th grades, unless they're going to a new school.
Mom: well they transferred schools.
Trix: *listening to the crickets chirp*
Mom: oh i thought you meant a NEW school. like modern.
Trix: *still hearing crickets*

Anonymous asked: Since I was little my mom wanted me to be over 6 feet tall. With most grown asian men being a short stature because of malnutrition and all that, a lot of asian mothers want a tall son. And all those short kids who I used to literally look down now...

Anonymous asked: Hallo, dr. Cranquis.
I am a first year med student and wondering about buying an anatomy book(s). Most of my seniors recommend Sobotta but since there are two of them I found it inconvenient. A friend suggest me to buy either Yokochi or Netter. Anyway, since I am a newbie, I can't tell which one is better than another. So.. what do you suggest? Sobotta, Yokochi, Netter, or...other?

morningponderings asked: Hi there! In response to the question regarding heparin shots and mysterious bruises, we are taught that rubbing the injection sites might contribute to that problem too. Hence we (nursing students) don't rub around the injection sites after administering SC anti-coagulants, such as heparin and dalteparin. Hope this helps!

Now for the past few months, it hurts to bend my knee for a long time (ex: sitting cross legged, bending it so it's by my chest, etc.) Should I go back into physical therapy or get it check into again?

Anonymous asked: Hello Dr Cranquis!
Last year, after persistent backpain in my thoracic and sacral regions, as well as really bad sciatica in both legs and pain in my shoulders from my bad posture, I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disorder in T3-T12, foraminal narrowing at C5 and two potruding discs between L4 and L5 and L5 and S1. I had an open field MRI, (damn claustrophobia,) to confirm it.

I've noticed often times when I catch a cold the blocked nostril changes; like when I'm standing it goes away, or when I switch sides while laying on my bed it moves from one nostril from the other. I'm just wondering why that is so, and what exactly is happening?

drsoon2be-deactivated20110208 asked: Hey, Thanks for answering my question.
I think my questions about personality tests relates more to the following:
Does a patient’s personality affect their interactions (or lack thereof) with the medical field? Yes.
If this is true, do you think we should have some kind of personality assessment then? Do you think it will help with patient -to-doctor interations.

Anonymous asked: What would you recommend to help with canker sores? I know they are pretty much impossible to prevent. I've been to various doctors and they tell me to just monitor my diet and such. I've tried cutting out certain things that might cause then (whiting products, tomato sauce, etc) but they always seem to reappear every other week! Any advice would be much appreciated :)

PS Hope you don't mind my butting in with a suggestion :p

Behind the Medic: When Abbreviations Attack
So this one time at band camp in a hospital where I was working as a Family Medicine resident, I discharged a male adult patient who had been there for something (pneumonia? kidney infection? I can’t remember…). As part of the discharge process, I had to write up a discharge summary (an outline/story of the patient’s stay and the treatments while he was in the hospital). I typed...
